Home grown

The couples whose stories are found under the tab ‘The immigrants’ had children in Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania from 1856). If they hadn’t I wouldn’t be here!

The stories of my ancestors who were ‘native born’, to use the 19th century term, are – or at least will be - under this tab. If a Tasmanian-born ancestor married someone born overseas the couple will be treated as ‘Home Grown’.

As the earliest immigrants had their families well before the last of the immigrants arrived there is chronological cross over between the two categories. If you can’t find someone under one tab, try the other.

The stories are arranged here by order of year of birth, based on the birth year of the elder spouse.
